My Story
About Luis
College: Luis was a walk on at the University of California, Santa Barbara amongst 16 freshmen that were already recruited. He was named freshman player of the year and was selected three times on the All-Big West First Team. In his senior year, as an attacking midfielder, Luis scored 17 goals and made 10 assists, earning recognition as a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist. He also received Male Athlete of The Year and was the first athlete to be on the front cover of UCSB’s Dare Magazine.
Professional Career: In 2012 Luis was selected by Toronto FC as the forth pick in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft. Luis made his professional soccer debut on March 7, 2012, where he also scored his first goal against the LA Galaxy in the 2011-2012 Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals. In his time with Toronto FC he was able to win his first trophy the Canadian Championship.
In 2013 DC United acquired Luis. Luis made a quick impact by scoring consecutively in his first three games, later that year winning the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup against real salt lake. The following year Luis scored his first professional hat trick in the first half against the Montreal Impact.
In July 2015, Luis joined Real Salt Lake for half of the season before he decided to go play for Tigres in Monterrey, Mexico. As a kid Luis always dreamed of playing in the Liga MX because of where he was born. He spent one year in Mexico winning his third trophy, as Tigres beat America in penalty kicks.
Luis then returned to Real Salt Lake in 2017 where he had a great season. He was able to play against one of the best teams in the world in a friendly match, the Red Devils, Manchester United. Not only did Luis play against Manchester United, he was able to score the only RSL goal. That season Luis ended up with 7 goals and 5 assists.
In 2019 Luis made the decision to go play with a Finish team, FC Honka. Half way through the season Luis had the opportunity to come back to the US and joined the Seattle Sounders. It was with Seattle that Luis won his forth trophy and one of the most important, the 2019 MLS Cup.
PHILOSOPHY
LS Soccer School is an elite soccer training program that was created by Luis Silva. This soccer program is designed to provide the opportunity to athletes of all ages to train like a pro and improve every aspect of their game. At LS Soccer School we pride ourselves on allowing each player to obtain the upmost confidence in his or her game through a simple formula, perfecting the fundamentals of soccer.
DRIBBLING/PASSING
From a forward to defender, passing is one of the key fundamentals in the game of soccer no matter what your position is. This is a team sport, therefore you need to know how to pass the ball to get closer to the opponents goal and score.
Dribbling doesn’t mean doing fancy tricks here and there. The purpose behind dribbling is to be able to beat your opponent to create a numerical advantage throughout the field.
trapping/receiving
Receiving a pass is another imperative fundamental in the game of soccer. Making yourself available to your teammates, with correct positioning will make receiving with/without pressure, more natural. Knowing how to receive the ball, keeping it close to your body, or taking your touch into space will create an easier transition when passing to teammates.
THE
FUNDAMENTALS
If you can master these qualities, your confidence will allow you to step onto any field, at any level, and deliver for 90+ minutes.
Striking/Finishing
The key behind scoring goals, mainly for but not limited to forwards and midfielders. Learning how to strike accurately is not just about kicking the ball as hard as you can on frame. There are many ways to strike a ball, but the two main techniques are power with accuracy, and placement with finesse. Striking with purpose and beating the keeper is the ultimate accomplishment.
Precision/Awareness
Playing with precision can be a deciding factor on whether or not one is able to play at the highest level. This is necessary in every single category; passing, receiving, dribbling and striking. Anyone can learn how to pass the ball, but being precise and aware of your surroundings in order to pass to your teammate leads to possession.
